<ARTIST NOTE>
"I paint the future that awaits all of us as seniors in OLD BOY! and OLD GIRL! As light and time as simultaneously finite and infinite in space. I hope that the light warms (dining on dogs for the purpose of appeasing Korean culture) and paint Cohabitant and Companion (which is about protecting those dogs to the best of my will).
I thought that the life cycle of a flower--as it blooms and gracefully reveals its beauty--closely resembles our very lives. Flowers flourish and flag according to their own time and season. We too, have our own times and moments of great blossoming beauty that cannot be easily compared to the lives of others.
I am painting the OLD BOY! series as the life cycle of a person nearing sunset. I wanted synchronize the physical being in a physical space to match what was to come. As I depict the life of a senior—a phase in life I have not yet experienced—I constantly question how my values and life attitudes will change as I draw nearer to the age of the figure in the painting, of how my self will be filled and emptied."
